Jennifer Harman has been in the spotlight since her first public poker debut, and also earned hundreds of thousands of Dollars. That includes a massive $299,500 prize pot, scored at the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic, where she finished at fourth place. Jennifer got caught up with card games before she turned ten years old. Poker was her favourite game and she used to watch her father play the game with his friends. Sometimes he would allow her to play a few hands too. Upon her high school graduation, little Jen worked as a waitress at a casino. Although she was well acquainted with cards already, her interest grew even stronger as she watched other gamblers come and go. A few years later, Jennifer finally ended up at a university where she spent most of her time studying biology and math. Taking the role of a student forced her to get an income, since her parents could not afford to contribute with much more than spare change. A job was out of the question, so she decided to play some poker. This turned out to be a good decision and Jennifer realized that she was quite a card shark. Life after graduation was difficult and turbulent for Jennifer. Despite having a major in biology, Jennifer felt that poker was the real deal to her, and she had already seen so many others make a successful living out of it. Her choice of career was becoming a professional poker player, which lead to disagreements between Jennifer and her father. Because of this, she got disconnected from her roots for a significant amount of time. When Jennifer finally managed to prove to her father, that poker is indeed a game of skills and that she could make a living out of it, life went back to what it used to be. This was obviously not an easy task and despite not having any major winnings, Jennifer got her family back and got a load of pressure off her chest. In the late 90s, Jennifer finally got her long-awaited breakthrough in poker. A lot of Texas Hold'em games later, she ended up participating in a couple of World Series of Poker tournaments. She did not prove herself too successful there, however. Real life competition combined with a crowded environment was far more difficult than it first seemed. Instead, she began playing cash games with a small group of people. This was her first real climb as that little group happened to include two of the world’s most successful poker players of all times. Doyle Brunson and Daniel Negreanu, two well known players who have tutored many players in the past. Since then, Jennifer has participated in many tournaments of World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour, where she has ended up in the money quite a few times. But we suspect that her biggest winnings come from the super high stake cash games that she has participated in, going as high as $4000/$8000. Today, Jennifer lives with her husband Marco and four dogs. She has – so far – continued to play poker at very high levels without showing any signs of quitting anytime soon. |
